Miklavž na Dravskem polju

Settlement Miklavž na Dravskem polju  is lying  entirely on the Drava field as the name implies (Dravsko polje). Drava plain on the west border of Pohorje , in the extreme northwest of the Drava valley on the north and east to the Slovenian hills to the south gradually passes into the Ptuj field . Miklavž has about 3,800 inhabitants. In place of the primary school, kindergarten , fire brigade, cultural center, health center, post office and bank. Municipality of Miklavž na Dravskem polju consists of four villages: Miklavž na Dravskem polju , Skoke , Dobrovce and Dravski dvor. Mayor of Miklavz is Leo Kremžar.



In this area, they discovered numerous remains from Roman times, including the Roman burial mounds. Part of Roman monuments were used as the foundation for the later church.

Miklavž is first mentioned in 1202 as a settlement relatively wealthy farmers. In the middle of the 16th century in the settlement built the first water mill, which stood at Miklavž pond.

The old town lies on the edge of the terrace above the old riverbed of the Drava River, where it was in the Middle Ages developed village near the chapel, which was erected rafters that are out there on the Drava river rafter wood. around the chapel was later built a church, and a settlement was growing around. Church construction began in the 16th century. It was built in Romanesque style, and it was completed in 1662. In 1778 the church got a Renaissance altar.

At the end of the 18th century in the immediate vicinity of the church began operating the first school.

In 1885 was in Miklavž built in the first inn called Pri stari lipi (at old linden tree) because at the garden grow a big old linden tree. Nearby was a natural spring fountain which served as a source of drinking water for those households which did not have its own spring.


The most recent part of settlement are developed on both sides of the main road and to the delivery channel hydropower plant Zlatoličje. In Miklavž is registered 166 companies. The most important economic sectors are: transport and communications, trade, repair of motor vehicles, hotels and restaurants and construction. At settlement Skoke is lying a sports airfield.
